This is a relaxed, informal group bringing together like minded folks who enjoy taking photographs using phones or cameras. We have a well earned refreshment after picture taking to share photos, have discussion and agree on destination for our next meet up. Below are some of our recent efforts.

Coming up
In May we are intending to visit Claypits nature reserve in the north of the city, so fingers crossed for good weather and fewer roadworks across town.
Recent wanderings
Our plan on Monday 13th April was to be at the City Chambers early enough to get a spot on the 2.30pm tour. Mission accomplished! You can't book in advance so, as passes are handed out 30 minutes before the tours start, early attendance is necessary. Our tour guide was a good communicator with a strong clear voice, which held everyone’s attention for the duration of the 45 minute tour. There were no events on so we managed to see all of the public rooms, the top floor area with portraits of previous Lord Provosts, an oval balcony beneath an atrium and Wedgewood plasterwork. We admired the marble staircase several times, more marble here than in the Vatican…allegedly. We all thought the tour was interesting and well worth the time, also, it's still free to all. We finished our day across at The Piper bar on Cochrane Street, Irn Bru Sour on tap as well as Disco Forklift Truck.
Seven of us met at Newlands Park in March to amble around to photograph signs of spring. Also in March we had a joint trip with the Art Appreciation group at Queens Cross church
Our meet up in November was a visit to the Mitchell Library.
In October our numbers were once again depleted due to holidays and other commitments, however we ventured out to Cuningar Loop at Rutherglen for an afternoon of picture taking. This was a first visit to the area by some of the group and has been recommended as well worth a trip ( depending on weather, of course). As usual, this was followed by a visit to Costa for coffee and discussion/ review of pictures taken.

The group met up in September, unfortunately due to holidays and illness there was only a gang of three. Meeting at Oswald Street there was an enjoyable walk along Clyde side, crossing the water via the Squinty Bridge and having the usual post photography refreshments and discussions at a convenient hotel.
Still gadding about—Spiers Wharf in June 2025. We met up at Cowcaddens underground and took a walk up to the canal at Spiers Wharf. The weather wasn't great but rain held off long enough for us to have a wander around and get some pictures.
We came back via China Town which was looking rather rundown, had a look at the old Bank building with it's etched glass windows and checked out the old marble drinking well before heading back into the city centre via Garnethill. It's still very sad to see the Glasgow School of Art shrouded in scaffold, etc though it was good to see a new gallery opened nearby in Hill Street, The Grateful Gallery, which doesn't open on a Monday but looks well worth a visit. We then enjoyed our usual refreshments and picture sharing/discussions.

In May we stayed closer to home by visiting Queens Park.
We had a trip to Paisley in April. The weather was a little mixed, however, didn’t affect our enjoyment of the day. We visited Paisley Abbey, open to the public with the support of local volunteers who were very helpful and knowledgeable. after our walk through the abbey 3 of us braved the weather to have a look at Anchor Mills while the others enjoyed coffee and cake in the tearoom.

In February there was a return visit to Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery. There’s so much to see that it was worth a second visit and we were joined by the Photography group for this jaunt.
This was a very enjoyable meet up, it’s always interesting to see the different exhibits that are photographed and the different perspectives that the photographers have.

After the picture taking the group paid a visit to Brewdog for refreshments and discussion/review of photographs.
We had an enjoyable afternoon visiting Glasgow University cloisters and campus for our November meet up. Most of us had not visited before, there was so much to see that it’s likely we will revisit next year.

We followed our picture taking with a trip to Stravaigin on Gibson Street for refreshments which rounded off our afternoon nicely.

In August our meet up coincided with the start of the Piping Live festival in the City Centre. We attended a free session by the Balerno and District School band on Buchanan Street then took a stroll over to Townhead to visit the location used for Navids shop in Still Game. The shop looks different, but we enjoyed talking with the lovely staff member who came out to talk about it. Afterwards we walked back to the street cafe outside the Piping Centre where we enjoyed refreshments and listened to one of the Under 21 heats for Individual Pipers.
In July we paid a visit to the recently reopened Provands Lordship in Castle Street. It was very informative regarding the history of the building and its occupants. We visited the Royal Infirmary Cafe for refreshments and discussion.
Social Photography group met in May and spent a very enjoyable afternoon in the Merchant City area taking pictures of murals and buildings. We ended up at Babbity Bowsters for refreshments, this building having been selected as a subject for photography.
The group met on Monday 11th March and visited WASPS studio/gallery at The Briggait. We visited an exhibition by Erin McQuarrie, a Scottish textile artist. Most of us had not heard of Erin, we all enjoyed our visit and appreciated her creativity and inventiveness. Afterwards we headed to Mono in King Street for refreshments and discussion while sharing our pictures.
